VACUNA CONTRA EL MELANOMA
DR. JOSÉ MORDOH
José Mordoh, Investigador Científico del CONICET, se recibió de médico en la UBA, con Diploma de Honor. Ha sido discípulo de los premios Nobel Luis F. Leloir (Argentina) y François Jacob (Francia). Es subdirector de la Carrera de Oncología (UBA), y Jefe de Bioterapia del Instituto Alexander Fleming. Fue creador y director de la Maestría en Biología Molecular Médica de la UBA, en la que es Profesor de Medicina Molecular y Oncología Molecular.
APROBÓ EL ANMAT UNA VACUNA CONTRA EL MELANOMA
Tras una investigación que ha llevado más de 30 años, científicos argentinos liderados por el Dr. José Mordoh, desarrollaron una vacuna terapéutica contra el melanoma – el más grave cáncer de piel – que fue aprobada por la ANMAT.
Los ensayos clínicos en pacientes mostraron una alta eficacia (72,8%) sobre el Interferon Alfa 2 (27,2%), medicina habitual con la que se la comparó. La ANMAT autorizó su aplicación a pacientes y se estima que en unos meses la podrán recibir.
Mordoh, discípulo del Premio Nobel argentino Luis F. Leloir e investigador del CONICET y de la Fundación SALES, fue pionero internacionalmente en inmunoterapia, que enfrenta la enfermedad desde nuestras defensas naturales, sin consecuencias secundarias. La revista científica Science calificó en 2013 a la inmunoterapia oncológica como el hecho más destacado en la investigación del cáncer, pues se abre un antes y un después en el tratamiento de la enfermedad.
“En los últimos años la inmunoterapia adquirió relevancia, potenciando la acción antitumoral sin producir consecuencias dañinas. Las vacunas reconocen y eliminan el tumor de manera eficiente”, explica Mordoh.
En la Argentina, los hospitales estiman entre 1.200 y 1.500 casos de melanoma por año, que ocasionan unas 600 muertes.
Las investigaciones que dirige el Dr. Mordoh se sostienen con el aporte de más de 150.000 donantes que aportan a Cáncer Con Ciencia de la Fundación SALES. Sus científicos avanzan también con otros cánceres, como el de mama, leucemia y vejiga.

A scientific researcher at CONICET, José Mordoh graduated with honors as medical doctor from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). He was apprentice to the Argentinian Nobel Prize winner Luis F. Leloir and French laureate François Jacob. He is deputy director of the Oncology Career at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and chief of Biotherapy at the Alexander Fleming Institute. He was founder and director of the Master’s Degree in Medical Molecular Biology at UBA, where he is currently professor of Molecular Medicine and Molecular Oncology.
ANMAT APPROVED A VACCINE AGAINST MELANOMA
After more than 30 years of research, Argentine scientists led by Dr. José Mordoh developed a therapeutic vaccine against melanoma – the most serious skin cancer – that was approved by ANMAT.
Clinical trials in patients showed a high efficacy (72.8%) over Interferon Alpha 2 (27.2%), the usual medicine with which it was compared. The ANMAT authorized its application to patients and it is estimated that in a few months they will be able to receive it.
Mordoh, a disciple of the Argentine Nobel Prize winner Luis F. Leloir and a researcher at CONICET and the SALES Foundation, was an international pioneer in immunotherapy, which confronts the disease from our natural defenses, without secondary consequences. The scientific journal Science described cancer immunotherapy in 2013 as the most outstanding fact in cancer research, since it opens a before and after in the treatment of the disease.
“In recent years, immunotherapy has gained relevance, enhancing antitumor action without producing harmful consequences. Vaccines recognize and eliminate the tumor efficiently”, explains Mordoh.
